Observing World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025

On May 28, 2025, the Progressive Health Initiative of Liberia (PHIL Liberia) joined the global community in observing World Menstrual Hygiene Day, hosting an impactful gathering that brought together more than 100 participants from across Maryland County.

The observance served as a platform to break the silence surrounding menstrual health, confront stigma, and advance open dialogue on an issue that continues to affect the dignity, education, and well-being of women and girls across Liberia. Community members, students, health workers, and local stakeholders converged to engage in conversations centered on menstrual hygiene management, debunk harmful myths, and promote sustainable hygiene practices.

The event drew strong support and participation from a wide range of institutional and community partners, including:

1.  Partners In Health Liberia
2.  Ministry of Gender and Child Protection, Maryland County Office
3.  William V.S. Tubman University family
4.  Students and principals from five different secondary schools across the county
5.  Dorbor’s Bedell Foundation, a humanitarian organization
6.  Ministry of Health, through its sub-branch, the Maryland County Health Team
7.  And other community-based organizations and stakeholders

The turnout reflected the growing momentum behind PHIL Liberia’s health equity mission and underscored the community’s readiness to engage openly on topics historically considered taboo. The event created a safe, inclusive space where participants could ask questions, share experiences, and access accurate health information without judgment.

This observance was more than a single-day event; it was a continuation of PHIL Liberia’s year-round commitment to menstrual health equity, building directly on the momentum of the organization’s “Improve Health, Save Lives by Giving” campaign. By bringing menstrual hygiene into public conversation, PHIL Liberia reinforced a simple but powerful truth: dignity should never be compromised by a lack of access or awareness.
